My trip to Bavaria, Hanne's birthday party and Starnberg September 13 - September 17, 2025

This is the first trip I took alone by train after getting my hip replacement. I was a little nervous about going all the way to Bavaria by train alone. Frauke encouraged me and said you can get help from the train people. So I located them and wrote I was going with a rolator and need help. They were there at the railway station, so that was no problem. There was a problem in Wachterhof though. The S-bahn had a huge step from train to platform and I had to get the rolator down. It caused the rolator to tip over and took me with it. I landed on the platform on top of the rolator, which I guess was lucky, because I had my backpack between me and the rolator. Two young men who also got off there hurried to me and helped me up.

Deininger Weimer This is the lake at Deininger Weiher. The house that the birthday party took place in is located on the lake.

Deininger Weimer All the guests who wanted to took a walk around the lake. I did too with no aids. So I was actually happy about that.

Deininger Weimer I didn't manage to get a good photo of Hanne. She is in the black dress.

Deininger Weimer The next morning I took a walk on Starnberg See. It was way to gigantic to walk around the whole lake, just looking to see what I could see near Starnberg.

Deininger Weimer There was a solar system set up on the path showing all the planets. It was actually over a long path with a bridge which I managed to climb although it had 20 stairs. I saw all the planets except for Neptune which I couldn't find. The path was not straight and in many place there were two or three options with no instructions where to find the next planet.

Deininger Weimer This I saw on my morning walk.

Deininger Weimer I took a photo of the town Starnberg from the place I walked to then turned around and went back.

Deininger Weimer Hanne came to see me at around 1 o'clock and we went first to a restaurant on the lake. After eating a good lunch we walked through the woods to find the Ludwig's votiv which is here, build in 1878, ten years after Ludwig's death. This is the spot where Koenig Ludwig died. He either was murdered or committed suicide or just simply couldn't swim. In any case he was found in the lake.

Ludwig This was inside the votiv house. There was a double fence going all the way to the roof so we couldn't go up to the basin. Amazingly my camera didn't show the net fence.

Deininger Weimer Here you can see the lower part of the fence that covered the whole area. Above it is still the iron net fence to the ceiling.

Deininger Weimer On the lake side the path Ludwig took down to the see is shown by the two crosses. The spot at the see is where he went in the lake to die.

Deininger Weimer This is a horrible photo, but it's the only one I have of this trip. Ugh.

Deininger Weimer The next morning I took a trip on a ship that went through half of the lake. I didn't have time for the whole lake. We went right past the restaurant where we ate our lunch the day before. This is it with a pier where you could actually take a ship to get there.

Deininger Weimer We also went past the Ludwig votiv from the see side and here it is.

Deininger Weimer Although you could see the Alps at the end of the lake, it was really too cloudly to get a good photo. The first day was nicer with sunshine, but I didn't have my camera.

Deininger Weimer Only the front row of the mountains. When it was clearer we could also see the back row.

Deininger Weimer The lookout spot at Tuetzing at the Evangelische Academy where I once held a speech (2018). You can see the mountains from there. But I don't remember having seen them at that time.
